Cape Town City Break
A few fast days in Cape Town balancing Table Mountain views, winelands day trips and two very different oceans.
- Safety — trail muggings, smash-and-grab, ATM card-swap: Muggings do happen on the walking trails — Table Mountain (Platteklip Gorge), Lion's Head and Signal Hill — so hike in a group in daylight, carry little, avoid isolated paths, and check current hotspots with SANParks or the Table Mountain authorities before setting off. Driving, keep doors locked, windows up and bags out of sight on the floor: 'smash-and-grab' thieves target phones and bags left on the seat at traffic lights ('robots'). At ATMs, use one inside a bank or mall, never accept 'help', and refuse anyone who approaches — card-swap and skimming are common. Don't walk alone after dark in the CBD or on empty beaches, and use a metered taxi, Uber or Bolt at night.
