From Napoli Centrale station, the airport and the port, insist on a white metered taxi or the official fixed 'tariffa predeterminata' into the centre, and refuse unmarked cars and 'my meter's broken' drivers. Pickpockets work the crowded Circumvesuviana line to Pompeii and Sorrento, the historic-centre streets around Spaccanapoli and packed buses — keep valuables in a front pocket and bags zipped.
